Asian Voices Oral History Exhibition

Saturday 19th June, 2010

The Asian Voices Exhibition held on Saturday 19th June, 2010 at the University of Huddersfield was a huge success. Participants from the project shared their experiences with members of the community and academic staff. Project manager, Nafhesa Ali gave a talk thanking the people who contributed to the project and helped preserve South Asian history in Huddersfield. In attendance were, Lord Mayor Andrew Palfreeman, and Council Leader Cllr Mehboob Khan. The Councillor addressed the audience and talked about the positive benefits of what the communities and collective groups have contributed to the project.

Thanks are due to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for funding the project and the University of Huddersfield for hosting Asian Voices.

The Asian Voices has been successfully completed with an education pack compiled free to all schools. A book publication, Asian Voices: The first generation migrants is available through the University's Centre for Oral History Research, priced at £5.00 inc p&p. Interested schools may contact Stephen Dorril to request a copy.
